Keeping a Micro pig as a pet – Kew Little Pigs Farm

Keeping a Micro pig as a pet

Kew Little Pigs are proud to be one of the largest and most trusted miniature pig breeders.

We always breed responsibly, choosing a suitable sow and boar. The piglets stay with their mother for the first 8-10 weeks of their lives and are then separated into same sex pens. Once they have had all their vaccinations, the piglets are available  to buy.

All our pigs on the farm are loved and cared for by experienced staff and handlers. Our farm is a public attraction, so the pigs are used to human interaction and as a result of this, have very friendly and social personalities. They are best sold in pairs or single sex groups.

We will be announcing the date for our 2019 arrivals very soon! These piglets will be available from 8 weeks old

Buying a micro pig - things to consider:

  1. Do you have permission of the landowner/homeowner and a CPH number?
  2. Are you over 21 and have a family/ friends to have support when getting a micro pig?
  3. Do you have the time and capabilities to get a micro pig. Like any pet, pigs take dedication.
  4. Do you have the finances to purchase the initial set up and then carry on caring for your pig throughout their life?
  5. Do you know how to care for a pig or have you had training?

If you have been thinking about getting a micro pig we always suggest taking part in our Comprehensive Guide to Pig keeping course.
Getting ready for a micro pig

It is important to get good fencing as micro pigs are known to be good escape artists and you must have a safe penned area for the micro pigs to live in. It is essential to install and use correct fencing.

Your little oinker can come in your house but must have access to outside space to express their natural behavior. Micro pigs are clean animals and always do their business far from their living area and you can litter train your piglets quite easily.

Micro pigs do not smell but their toilet area must be cleaned out every day and they must have fresh straw in their arks.

An important thing about Micro pigs and pigs in general is that DEFRA states it is your responsibility to secure your pigs and house them in a safe and secure environment by installing and maintaining correct fencing.
