Reindeer are Arctic animals, so they have unique features to help them thrive in cold weather. Their very clever noses warm up the air before it gets into their lungs so they don’t get too cold. Their hooves have the ability to grow in Summer and shrink in Winter, so they have no problem playing on different types of ground. They’re the only deer species that both males and females grow antlers! But males’ antlers shed in November and don’t grow back until Spring, whereas females’ shed just before they give birth in May. They’re extremely strong animals so it’s no wonder they have no problem pulling Santa’s sleigh!

“I joined the team in September of 2021 as a Farm Hand. This was my first proper job and the experience was very insightful as working with animals there is never a dull moment. I have always loved animals and have had many different animals growing up such as guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs and horses so I knew the animal industry was a career I would like to be involved in. Since joining Kew Little Pigs Farm I have had the opportunity to care for the animals and share my knowledge with all the customers that have visited the farm. I was promoted to Head Farm Hand in January 2023.
