Ducks belong to the waterfowl family, which is the name for any bird that lives on or near water. That’s why ducks are very similar to geese and swans, and is also why they love water. They are made especially for water and have webbed feet to prove it! Their webbed feet means that they can swim and dive under the water to look for food. A dive typically lasts for up to 30 seconds. They also have small but strong wings, and flap them 10 times per second when they fly. That’s super-fast!
Ducks can stay under the water for more than a minute.

“I joined the team in September of 2021 as a Farm Hand. This was my first proper job and the experience was very insightful as working with animals there is never a dull moment. I have always loved animals and have had many different animals growing up such as guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs and horses so I knew the animal industry was a career I would like to be involved in. Since joining Kew Little Pigs Farm I have had the opportunity to care for the animals and share my knowledge with all the customers that have visited the farm. I was promoted to Head Farm Hand in January 2023.
