Loved-up couple fly from Italy to Buckinghamshire for the ultimate piggy date

Most couples might choose a city break or a romantic dinner, but one loved-up pair travelled hundreds of miles for something far more unusual, a day out with Britain’s cutest pigs.

Lorenzo and Diletta, from Parma in northern Italy, made the journey to Buckinghamshire after discovering the famous miniature pig attraction Kew Little Pigs in Amersham online and deciding they simply had to visit.

The couple flew from Italy to London before heading out to the countryside farm, where they spent the day cuddling piglets, learning about pig behaviour and getting up close with the farm’s famously friendly residents.

The Buckinghamshire attraction, founded by animal lover Olivia Mikhail, has become an unlikely international destination for pig fans, welcoming visitors from across the UK and increasingly from overseas, this week alone the farm has had a couple from New York visit too.

Olivia said she is always amazed at how far people will travel to meet the pigs.

“It’s wonderful to see visitors coming from all over the world just to spend time with these amazing animals,” she said. “Pigs are incredibly intelligent, affectionate and curious, and once people meet them properly they completely fall in love.”

Kew Little Pigs has also built a unique “Brexit-busting” partnership with Ireland’s Burren Nature Sanctuary, allowing the farm to continue helping place ethically reared pet pigs with suitable homes across Europe.

Through the collaboration, miniature pigs bred under strict welfare standards can be responsibly rehomed with carefully vetted families in Ireland and mainland Europe, ensuring that pig lovers from across the continent can still welcome these remarkable animals into their lives.

Millie - Head Farm Hand

“I joined the team in September of 2021 as a Farm Hand.  This was my first proper job and the experience was very insightful as working with animals there is never a dull moment. I have always loved animals and have had many different animals growing up such as guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs and horses so I knew the animal industry was a career I would like to be involved in. Since joining Kew Little Pigs Farm I have had the opportunity to care for the animals and share my knowledge with all the customers that have visited the farm. I was promoted to Head Farm Hand in January 2023.

I look forward to my journey here at Kew Little Pigs Farm and hope to see you on the farm soon!”
