As temperatures dip and frost creeps across Buckinghamshire, there’s only one place where pigs in blankets are not just allowed, they’re actively encouraged.
At Kew Little Pigs in Amersham, the UK’s best-known ethical micro-pig farm, this winter’s piglets are being kept warm the festive way, wrapped snugly in soft, comfy blankets as staff make sure the farm’s newest arrivals stay safe, calm and cosy during the cold snap.
Among those enjoying the VIP winter treatment are piglets from much-loved mums Jilly and Blossom, whose recent litters have been one of the highlights of a busy and emotional year at the farm.
Born into attentive, hands-on care, the piglets are closely monitored, gently handled and brought indoors when needed, with heat, bedding and blankets used to ensure their welfare comes first.
Owner Olivia Mikhail says the seasonal scenes are a reminder of how pigs should be treated, not just at Christmas, but all year round.
“This is the only way pigs in blankets should be this Christmas,” said Olivia. “Our piglets are wrapped up warm, cared for properly and given everything they need to thrive. It’s adorable to see, but it’s also about responsibility. Pigs are intelligent, sensitive animals and they feel the cold just like we do.”
The festive piglet cuddles come at the end of a landmark year for Kew Little Pigs, which continues to champion ethical breeding, education and transparency in a sector often plagued by welfare concerns. Throughout 2025, the farm has welcomed thousands of visitors, hosted sell-out events, expanded its Pigs for Schools education programme, and strengthened partnerships with like-minded sanctuaries and breeders across the UK and Europe.
Jilly and Blossom’s litters have played a special role in that story, helping to highlight the care, planning and lifelong responsibility involved in pig ownership, something the team works hard to communicate to every prospective owner.
“Piglets might look like toys when they’re tiny and cute, especially at Christmas,” Olivia added, “but they grow, they bond, and they need commitment. That’s why we spend so much time educating people, and why every piglet born here matters so much to us.”
