About this experience
The course covers four subjects:
•Breeding – coming into season and for how long, mating with the Boar.
•Gestation – Signs of being in pig, caring for an in pig and preparation for birth.
•Farrowing – What to expect from the birth, caring for the mother and piglets during birth.
•Weaning – When the piglets should be weaned, the tell-tale signs of when a mother is getting too tired and handling.
The remainder of the time can be spent with our miniature pigs in our petting pen. You can get to know them and their unique personalities.
Give them a good groom, they'll be your piggy friends for life!
We encourage photos and selfies, our pigs love the spotlight so will stroke a pose for you!
Our miniature pigs come in all shapes and sizes each with a unique personality which will add to your experience.
Upon completion of this course you will receive a certificate. We will also send you all relevant animal health and DEFRA publications, to keep on file, with a Kew Little Pigs check list and owner’s guide to pig keeping.
On a visit please ensure that you dress accordingly, especially in the winter months, please wear wellies and old clothes. You will be issued with overalls for entering the pigs living areas.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your visit to park, walk up to the tables in the fenced off check-in area in the field adjacent to the car park. Please wait here and then check in with a member of staff. All visitors should use the foot mats and hand gels or hand wash before visiting the farm. Then you will have a safety talk. Please have your order number from your booking confirmation ready so we can check you in.
